LITTLE ROCK — Text message to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration: Don’t tamper with the current Hours of Service rule.
That’s the opinion of almost 450 truckers who voted in a recent unscientific poll on thetrucker.com.
Asked if they would like to see the 11-hour a day driving rule changed to 10 hours, 69.8 percent said no and 31.2 percent said yes.
Asked if they would like to see the 34-hour rule eliminated, 73.7 percent said no, 26.3 percent said yes.
Late last month, the FMCSA and Public Citizen et. al., agreed to a settlement in the third lawsuit brought against the current HOS rule that requires FMCSA to issue within nine months a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for a new rule.
The settlement calls for the new Final Rule to be issued within 21 months of the settlement date of Oct. 26.
